I can absolutely recommend keeping an eye on this game or try the demo. The music just makes you happy and the story was fun as well. I love the way this game looks, It’s even cuter than I thought. Of course, I’m comparing it a lot to Animal Crossing, but the story is completely different in Button City, so there is no problem with this. The whole game has an Animal Crossing vibe, and I’m all up for that! I loved that game as well, so I totally won’t mind something somewhat similar! It also has the same kind of upbeat, happy music in the background. As stated above, this is my very first low poly game, and it looks so damn cute. I didn’t know what it was about, but I was amazed by how it looked when opening the game. I started playing Button City without any expectations. Button City is a slow-paced pastel dream, that exists to tell a story about the importance of community. It’s a testament to the work of Twitter-based community Wholesome Games. Low-stakes, aesthetically pleasing games feel very in vogue in the current moment. It’s not the first of its kind, but it’s a great example of a greater movement within gaming. There also are no loading screens whatsoever, which I’m a huge fan of. Button City is the latest project of indie studio Subliminal Gaming. When you click on one below or above the one your on, it will slide there, and if you want to move to it you have to click it again. No, you have to click a button on the side which will show you three platforms with places on them, like the city, or the playground. In Button City, you don’t just casually walk to another side of town. I’m looking forward to playing more! Moving around town Button City is also an homage to arcade games, making this game a really unique experience. The puzzles are very easy and intuitive, with a focus on a heartwarming story. I loved this cute little game, even though it’s a lot like Animal Crossing: in the way they look and how they talk and show emotions, I had a lot of fun with this game. Button City offers an absolutely adorable pastel world filled with a cast of wonderful characters. After staying inside playing video games for a bit too long, his mother encourages him to go out and make some friends. Fennel is a shy little fox that’s just moved to town. After that, you finally get to play the arcade, and when you defeat them, the demo ends. Button City begins by introducing us to our protagonist: Fennel. Which will get you running across all of Button City. But all the people you ask want something in return. After talking to everyone, you learn that there is a squad that’s beating everyone! So you decide to get your own team to try and beat them. You play as a fox called Fennel and the Button City demo starts with a friend messaging you to hurry up and get to the arcade because it’s kids day! And every game is free to play on kids day! So you hurry your way there and see it’s incredibly busy. Let’s take a look at the rest of the demo experience down below! Short gameplay In this game, it’s all about playing arcade games with your in-game friends. This hella cute adventure is brought to you by the people of Subliminal and is the first game that has a low poly style I ever played! In my opinion, it looks fantastic and incredibly adorable. This also personally incentivized me to dig into side quests in the hopes of getting a cosmetic reward because what can I say? I’m a sucker for cute things. There are two forms of currency within the game, Buttons and Pal Points. Getting to dig into the sim elements of Button City were some of my favorite aspects of the experience, from earning new clothes to getting items to decorate my room. Side characters are notably odd, yet lovable, which compels me to go beyond the main quests and end each day with a bit of exploration before heading off to bed to progress the story further. ![]() Its world lore also supports this cuteness with some quirky details like the Mart Mart keeping a food called carrot dogs in stock. Like a kid at a carnival, I marveled at everything happening around me. Between bright pastels, cute animal characters, and sharply shaped cookies, the art direction is simultaneously cozy and awe-inspiring. Button City’s look had the biggest impact on me.
